Friends of The Threshold

During the Christmas Season in 2004,  a discussion started in the parish hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church about the desire for a Benedictine monastery in this area.  Two members of the parish were already associates of the Order of the Holy Cross.  The order's associate leader at Mount Calvary Monastery, Brother Robert Sevensky, encouraged us to think more along the lines of a lay led, ecumenical retreat center and within a few months a group of more than a dozen persons in the area were seriously discussing such a retreat center.  By June 2005, the first planning meetings were held to define the mission, vision and objectives of the organization.  From this planning effort, The Threshold - A Place of Prayer was formed.  The Board of Trustees was then formed and met first in December 2005.

The Board of Trustees and active committees continue to meet, plan and host a variety of activities.  The hosting of our first retreat house for individually led retreatants began in 2007 as the first major step towards the original vision of a place of prayer in the desert mountains of far west Texas built around the Benedictine rule and the practice of prayer the hours.
